I have a confession to make... I ran out of smokes and went to the store in my pajamas and crazy looking hair...When I got back home, I looked in the mirror and went, "WTH?"

Definetly time to quit... I am now down to pack a day, although in the last days I backslid and was back to two...Docs say I have high blood pressure and need to give up the smokes and the beer...I asked my doc how she deals with stress...She responded that she yells at her mother and oldest son...That cracked me up...

many years ago I smoked 2 packs a day for years. I quit cold turkey. Everytime I wanted a smoke I went for a run. The first day I could not run houses without laying on the front lawn gasping for air. Each day I made it just a bit farther. Now I can run up to 11 miles and hope to run the Boston Marathon this year. I just figured I would do something I could not even think about smoking when I did it. Worked for me and sunflower seeds in the shell!

Wow, 11 miles is a long way... 5 mile battalion runs would kill me when I was in my twenties...I'll be looking out for you in the papers...I don't want to live forever but since I am a late bloomer, I still have so much left to accomplish...Some lifestyle changes are definetly in order...

simple terms I have lost x % of my lung use due to scar tissue. They think form x. smoking x. asthma x. years of bronchitis when I smoked!

I can relate in a way... My wheezing is getting worse and that is why I need to quit before I need to go on oxygen tanks...Did I tell you that I am stupidly stubborn???

admitting you are stpidly stubborn doesn't make it any less stupid. I watched my grandfather live on an oxygen tank for years before he died from complications from smoking. Now my mom is off and on a tank. It is not even close to something to joke about.

Just jumped on here for a moment I'm a smoker. Have tried every which way to quit with little or no success. Someones created a new product ed electronic cigarettes that I really want to try. It's smokeless so you can use it in public. It's a mist that goes into your lungs that is supposed to be harmless, and won't affect anyone you're near. It also gives your body some nicotene so hopefully no withdrawals. I'm going to try this. I want to quit at this point and have to be successful NOW. Mr grandpa also died from emphysema and it is horrible to watch someone die as they're gasping for breath. I'm finally at the point in my life where I know I MUST quit. I don't want that to be my fate and I certainly don't want my to see me suffer like my grandpa did. Misnomer, I feel for you and understand that there is NOTHING funny about the damage smoking causes. This isn't an advertisement for electronic cigarrettes, it's simply something I came accross while surfing on you tube. Looks interesting, and I've tried everything else to quit, so I'm going to give this a try.

And I also know that quitting isnt easy. I tried for decades to get my mom to quit, and no is going to quit until they are ready. I get that. But joking about is something I have a really hard time with. You hit it on the head with "it is horrible to watch someone die as they're gasping for breath", it is. Its even harder watching them live that way.

My aunt and uncle both died of emphysema and I held my friend as she died of lung cancer, which she may have developed from years of secondhand smoke. Lung problems are scary and unpleasant, to say the least. I smoked for years ... and am living proof that stupid stubbornness CAN be harnessed to quitting as well as to rationalizing not quitting. Argle-bargle cigarettes.

My great-uncle died of emphysema,too. Even though I never knew him other than a frail man who coughed constantly and refused to quit smoking Camels,the old goat managed to live to x. But the last x years of his life were difficult as well due to having most of his stomach removed due to cancer. Although I experimented with cig smoking at x,I coughed too much and dropped the habit w/in x months.

You can say that again! Nicotine is addictive. I've had people tell me it's just that you need to do something with your hands, chew on a straw, or it's all a mr of just throwing them out. Yeah right! I've thrown them out and after a few days I am the crankiest person on the earth. I've had people in my life tell me to start smoking again, because I was such a bitch when I tried quitting. So yeah, I could suck on straws all day, but I need that nicotine in my system.

Ha! that's a first No ones ever told me I have a way with words. I struggle with getting my points across as I intend them to be understood. Yeah, I have quite a group of friends, they encourage me to smoke to make their lives nicer, wth? They should tolerate my bitchiness and support me, as I have them, many times.

My dad had smoked heavily for at least x years when he quit. I was very proud of him. It took multiple tries, but he did it.

My mom smoked for x years till she was diagnosed with cancer. She then quit cold turkey. Unfortunately it was too late, damage was done and she died x years later. please do your very best to quit.

switch brands some say to switch to a brand you don't like. I say switch to a brand that does not have all kinds of chemicals added. American Spirits are a tiny bit more expensive but last a loooong time. (I smoked Marlboro Lights and switched to American Spirits Mediums in the pale green packet.) That will wean you off the chemicals first. Then there is just the nicotine to withdraw from. Cut down slowly. All at once is a set up for failure. IMO

I did this I am down to the lowest tar and nicotine smokes I can find. I can't just give it up at once. I tried that a number of times and failed. I would go about a week and then break. It would just make me feel like a loser that I let this stupid thing ed a cigarette control me. I am ready to try now, and hope by switching about x months ago to a lower tar and nicotine that I can succeed. If not on my own, I'm going to try that electronic smoke thing. I also have a better mind set to do it now. I think you have to be mentally prepared and ready to quit, also. I resent that they are so darn addicting and that I ever started smoking.

American Spirits are simply tobacco with no additives. Marlboros have about x additives like formaldehyde, chocolate, ammonia and much much more. Personally, I think these are effecting health more than tobacco smoking. Try switching to a non-chemical brand. It helps a LOT.

I did went to Marlboro for price You know in MA we have a law, NO COUPONS OFR CIGS, so Newport will not be on special, but Marlboro, Parliament, Camel always are, so Newports are $x.x and Marlboro are $x.x. I do smoke a lot less of them,so I will keep at it. American Spirit menthol is gross. I think it is buffalo dung with some dried mint!
