has anyone taken Percocet foe a migraine? Or would 600mg ibuprofen be better? Eh or is there some over the counter thing that works great that I can go get my baby girl?

start witih the ibuprofen bath, nap, dark room.

take it with food or milk to protect stomach.

percocet? It would probably work on any pain but I think it's like killing a mosquito with a sledgehammer, I think. Migraines are a different breed of headache though, so really don't listen to this post at all.

I've never used percocet, but I do get killer migraines. If it's at the seeing spots, throwing up stage, give her the percocet! The longer you wait, the worse it can get. If she just has a really bad headache, you can try ibuprofen, but that does nothing for me. Some people find it's really effective for headaches. If you catch it early and you have to be out and about doing stuff, I find that an extra strength tylenol with caffeine does the trick - for me this means 2 * 500 mg tylenol and caffeine pills. If it's already into the migraine stage, you can get tylenol with codeine over the counter - ask the pharmacist. You can get the kind with caffeine for during the day, or the kind with antihistamine for nights. I keep a supply of both. If our medical-dykes are online right now they'll say whether codeine is basiy the same thing as percocet - I can't remember my families of pain killers at the moment. Poor girl! I hope she gets better soon.

Tylenol w/ codeine I think is prescription only in the U.S. Since we're all here I just want to say that that Excedrin with caffeine stuff they sell as "migraine forumula" is crap. That is all.

really? that shiz-ite works awesome for me. But ibuprofen does nothing. I think it has to do with how your particular body metabolizes things. My poor, poor liver. Prescription for Tylenol II is so weak, yo. :(

Definitely, every body does as it will The only thing that's ever worked on mine is a prescription thing under patent til god knows when (which means it's insanely expensive). I'm very thankful that I don't seem to get them as often as I used to. *touch pressed wood product*

Youch. migraines are the worst. I hope that I can continue to manage mine with over the counter meds. I have no problem with drug companies making a profit on something they invented, but those corporations go way beyond fair trade. They're exploitative. The cost of the HPV vaccine got me on this big rant too. And sometimes they just slightly change a drug and re-patent it so they can charge x times the price! Where is the regulation???

and get the pressure point on each hand I shall try to explain where it is: between the thumb and forefinger about an knuckle's width in. Right in that fleshy part of the hand. If you push your thumb down and move it around a bit she should be able to tell you when it's "killer pain". It's so worth it to endure that and feel nearly instant relief to the migraine. I've used fiorinal cx/x for years to treat migraine but much prefer if someone can do the pressure point for me instead. When you get the correct pressure point she may feel blood rushing up the back of her neck and tingly scalp. I often have a release of tears too .... not crying tears, just tears. Of course, if it's a cluster migraine you probably want the percocet. And the advice above about taking the pills with food is very wise. They are very rough on the stomach. hope she feels better soon.

Nice, aunty! good with the pressure points. as a migrane suffer-er myself, i find the excedrine migrane indeed works for me, and the pressure points as well. and i also find it incredibly relieving to have my GF rub my temples with some good pressure and something with eucalyptus in it. also, my forehead and sinuses--below eyes, bridge of the nose between the eyes and where the jaw is hinged--right in front of the ears. these are all pressure relieving points--i hope she made it through ok! migranes are a true BITCH! after the nice massaging, a dark room and a small nap usually round things out just right. :)

On migraines, have any other migraine sufferers noticed that they feel wonky the next day? I usually get migraines concentrated on the left side of my head, and the next day my right side doesn't work as well - I drop coffee mugs (spectacularly) I trip on nothing (and sprawl into traffic like I did today). I don't get them as frequently as I used to, but the severity is fairly constant, and it's the migraine "hang-over" that makes me wonder. Anyone else feel like this the day after a bad headache?

yes, I know exactly what you mean and I am so sad to know you were tumbling into traffic ... are you ok? I used to break coffee pots. of my friends told me that strong coffee could "arrest" a migraine (nice image that, eh?) but later I found out she had that tip confused with how to treat an asthma ck. I didn't start getting migraines 'til age x ~ I thought I had a brain tumor or something. Mine also started on the left side. I described it to the neurosurgeon as a knife stab kind of feeling. I detested the drugs. I added a good calcium/magnesium to my diet (double the daily RDI) and my migraines were less frequent, after about a month. Then I added higher than recommended doses of essential f acids: omega x, omega x and omega x. It was amazing. I rarely get migraines anymore. I used to get every month for sure at period time and often if I ran into something I was allergic to and, of course if I ate something like bananas or chocolate. Have you figured out your triggers? I was very surprised when I found that an allergic reaction can sometimes trigger a migraine. If I suspect it is from allergies I take an anti-histamine (usually I avoid them) because it makes the headache calm down immediately. I also found that high doses of VitC help with that hangover feeling.

Caffeine is good for a migraine. I love my doctor for encouraging me to drink more coffee when I have migraines. Coffee is also good for asthma, your friend didn't confuse the treatments because it's suggested for both.
